Days Til 2015 Ride

Showcasing Nevada’s Scenic Treasures and Culinary Delights

(Reno, NV) – Gather up the family and your cycling buddies in Fall 2011 and head to the Battle Born state for the scenic and delicious Edible Pedal 100™. The charitable century bicycle ride stages from historic Bowers Mansion in Washoe Valley, Nev., (15 miles south of Reno) on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011.

The recreational ride takes cyclists along Northern Nevada’s back roads to soak up the sights: from forests, meadows, and mountains to quaint towns, farmland, and the jewel of the Sierra: Lake Tahoe. In addition to gobbling up beautiful landscape, riders will eat fresh and seasonal bounty at rest stops and the post-ride barbecue.

Edible Pedal 100™ offers something for every rider. Families with young children and cyclists seeking a taste of an organized ride will relish the easy and flat 10-mile route through picturesque Washoe Valley. Those interested in a respectable ride will like the 50-mile loop, which includes a trek along bucolic country drives and through rustic towns. Serious roadies ready for a solid challenge will be thrilled with the 100-mile ride, which features a lung-searing, thigh-burning, climb up Kingsbury Grade from Carson Valley to Lake Tahoe.

Be prepared for outstanding fare to sate even the most discriminating foodie. Participants will savor mouthwatering local food and drink sourced by Edible Pedal 100™ partner edible Reno-Tahoe magazine, which celebrates and supports the local food community. Local farmers, ranchers, vintners, brewers, bakers, and other food artisans will contribute to the event.

Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise is Edible Pedal 100™’s co-partner. Rotary Club is the world’s first service club, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service Above Self.

Money raised will support Urban Roots, a garden classroom program based in Reno that assists public and private schools to create and maintain edible school gardens. Other beneficiaries include Virginia Palmer Elementary School in Reno, Rotary Youth Exchange and Rotary Youth Leadership Awards.

Edible Pedal 100™ will be an environmentally friendly ride. Refillable water bottles will be provided to riders to minimize the use of cups. Recycling and composting bins as well as recyclable food containers will be used throughout the ride.

You don’t want to miss this thoughtfully prepared and fun ride you can really sink your teeth into.
