Edible Pedal 100 Selects B.J. Mueller as 2013 Post-ride Barbeque Chef

Amanda Burden, Food and Beverage Director for Edible Pedal 100, is extremely excited to announce the talented chef for this year’s Edible Pedal 100’s post-ride barbecue. Robert “B.J.” Mueller — of Composition restaurant in Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, Cutting-Edge Catering, and Sauce Wagon (a 30-foot barbecue food truck) — is creating the menu and preparing a healthy and delicious meal for the ride’s hungry cyclists.

After receiving his degree from the Art Institute of Phoenix’s culinary program; spending time at a couple of four-star resorts in Tucson, Arizona; and working for a couple of years as a private chef aboard yachts in the Caribbean, Montrêux Country Club brought him to Reno. After his stint at Montrêux, he worked at Café Soleil and Red Hawk Golf Club’s steakhouse, and even prepared a private dinner for President Bill Clinton along with other dignitaries before going into business for himself. B.J. is a fabulous addition to our culinary team!

Burden, publisher and editor of edible Reno-Tahoe magazine, is sourcing the majority of the ingredients locally, including lamb, beef, pork, chicken, fruit, vegetables, herbs, and much more. B.J. will work with the components to create an enticing meal that pays homage to the seasonal and natural products cultivated for the event.

“When Amanda and Jaci [of edible Reno-Tahoe] came to me I was elated about the opportunity to be part of such a wonderful event,” B.J. says. “Since I’ve opened my own businesses, I’ve enjoyed the freedom to meet with local farmers to source some of the unique ingredients our area has to offer. In addition, it’s exciting to see the growth of city garden projects and local outreach programs such as Urban Roots. It’s our job as a community to teach kids where their food comes from and the importance of supporting local business. As a father of two beautiful girls, I know the importance of getting outdoors, exercising, and eating healthy. This event is a great opportunity for families and anyone else who wants to celebrate the growth of our community.”
