“Much of the produce that will be served at the 2013 post-ride barbecue is donated to the Edible Pedal from the gardens of some of these outstanding high school students,” said Edible Pedal 100™ Ride Director, Kerry Crawford. “This is the example we are trying to set. We want our community and our riders to understand where their food comes from, what goes into growing it, harvesting it and ultimately serving it.”
Crawford added, “These kids are making a difference in the world and we are honored to present them with the Edible Pedal 100 scholarship.”
The 2013 Edible Pedal 100™ is scheduled for Sunday, September 15 and stages from historic Bowers Mansion in Washoe Valley, Nev.
The ride is open to 1,000 riders of all ages and abilities. It is expected to sell out. Those interested in riding are encouraged to register online before July 15 by visiting: http://ediblepedal.ticketleap.com/edible-pedal-ride-2013/. Each ride entry includes one post-event barbecue ticket.
The ride offers cyclists three routes: a leisurely 10-mile ride through picturesque Washoe Valley; a respectable 50-mile course, climbing 2,800 vertical feet; and a serious 100-mile ride, climbing 6,600 vertical feet. Ride stops include Carson City, Genoa and Gardnerville.
The Edible Pedal 100™ is a fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise. Proceeds raised are given back to the Northern Nevada community.
